rhi: Yellow aspen leaves (fall leaves)
[personal profile] devohoneybee  asked, pick 3 of your favorite characters, and say what their favorite breakfast in bed is (bonus points for who serves it) .

So, randomly off of my icons!  (Easiest way to pick some favorites, you see.)

Steve Rogers -- Pancakes -- with jelly or peanut butter or Nutella, now that Tony's introduced him to it, bacon by the pan, and eggs any way he can get them.  That said, poached eggs are his favorite because that was his mom's favorite style and meant a day when she had time to cook.  He also loves oranges because that remind him of holidays with Bucky.

Methos -- He'll tell you beer, and if he's cooking, that might be breakfast.  If he has nothing else that morning, that is; otherwise, whatever he can warm up quickly.  Miso soup's a favorite.  If he can get Duncan to cook for him, though, the more extravagant the dish, the better.  Eggs Bendedict, or crepes with half a dozen fillings savory and sweet, the best coffee (that Duncan had tucked away for Connor's next visit) spiked with whipped cream and the whisky that was also tucked aside for Connor.  He's a man of simple tastes -- running Duncan ragged in a kitchen is simple, right?

Darius -- Technically, he's grateful for any morning where he gets to stay in bed.  If he's in St. Julien's in Paris, his favorite breakfast is croissants from the patisserie next to Madame Dessessart's cafe and anything she (or her son; she's getting older and mostly oversees lunch and dinner these days) sends him.  Anything.  Quiche, a ham and brie sandwich with her apricot preserves, tarte au citron or tarte tatin, the new soup they made the day before (to let the flavors meld overnight) and want his opinion on today....  He works hard at not committing gluttony there.  Failing that, though, tea, toast, and a book and he's a perfectly happy man.

As for Day 3, I'm going with a purely random one:  Favorite constellation.  I love the Pleiades, but Orion wins. When I start seeing it in the sky, it's my sign that colder weather is coming. Since I'm definitely an autumn person, that's welcome news.

rhi: A child opening a window onto a starscape. Sleep well. (sleep)
I don't actually like the Gangnam style vid but this NASA parody pimps NASA and science and I enjoyed it. ::amused:: I wouldn't watch it more than once, but some of the rest of you will probably like it more.  (And it is funny once.)  Enjoy!  (With a hat-tip to [tumblr.com profile] samjohnssonvt for the link.)

And [personal profile] staranise is running a love meme over here, but it's not quite the standard:  you have to explicitly give a reason you like someone, not just that you do.  Something they've said, or done, or created.  I threw my name in the hat here.  Let me know if you add yours, please!
rhi: the moon in all its phases (moon cycle)
::...looks at the time::  Yeah, okay, I have *got* to go to bed now.  But not until I link to this.  A solar eclipse quilt. Appropriate icon is so appropriate.
rhi: Rupert Giles in his natural habitat: a library. "Bookaholic." (bookaholic)
I went to get one book to look over an edda for a Marvel-verse fic I'm writing, and I pulled 3 more I've been meaning to reread. This is why there are piles of books everywhere around me...  (And I'm highly amused to find I wrote notes on gender fluidity, geometry, and karma on two successive pages of a book of eddas, with a note on Big Bang theory towards the end of that chapter.)  Anyway.  Back to dealing with this....

Oh, wow!

rhi: The aurora borealis over a setting crescent moon. (northern lights)
Time lapse photoshow of auroras over Norway over here; be sure to hit the play button.  The initial picture is lovely but the time lapse is amazing.. *Gorgeous beyond words*.  (I would so stay out and freeze to death watching these.)
rhi: A cheerful gryphon, facing right, one forepaw up (cheerful gryph)
What a lovely weekend! Warm enough to air out the house and go hiking -- plenty of deer to be seen, and a muskrat far off yesterday and much closer today. We went to an astronomy talk Friday night on the large moons in the solar system, then got to see the Orion Nebula and Saturn and Titan through telescopes. Saturday, we went hiking on both easy and moderate paths (strenuous will have to wait for a weekend when my ankle isn't throbbing); today we went on the easy paths. Cute dogs everywhere, and birds, and more turtles sunning in the surprising warmth than I'd have expected. It was really nice.

Then [livejournal.com profile] alysswolf IM'd me to tell me that Animal Planet was running the 'Puppy Bowl,' which has been hilarious. Puppies in a mock-stadium, playing with toys (lots of small footballs), and pawing at the glass waterbowl (with the camera under it!) and barking, and being rotated in and out as they get tired. Great fun if you get a chance to watch!

Now I'm off to write in between waiting for commercial on the Super Bowl. (Watch the game? Nah.)

You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by ... some of them are golden only because we let them slip by. - James Matthew Barrie,

Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who only dream by night. - Edgar Allen Poe

I often warn people: Somewhere along the way, someone is going to tell you, 'There is no "I" in team.' What you should tell them is, 'Maybe not. But there is an "I" in independence, individuality and integrity.' - George Carlin
