rhi: Jack O'Neill, hand over his face (facepalm)
So, sugar crash in aftermath of massive insomnia in aftermath of reading 109K of *really* too well done "Bucky Barnes at war" journal.  What the hell was I thinking?  That it was really good; got it.  Yeah.  See icon.

I'm going to go soak in a tub with fluff and/or porn, then go hit Cracker Barrel for dinner, but um, yeah, fic recs and links, please and thank you?
rhi: a full moon just above rippling water (moon)
I just fell asleep while listening to Welcome to Night Vale.  There were no dreams.  Therefore, no, I am not caught up on my sleep, and no, Night Vale does not automatically give interesting dreams.  Pity!  (On both counts.)

Haven soon!
rhi: A goblet of red wine on the table, palm placemats underneath (wine)
I made chicken cacciatore through the famous method of stare at six different recipes, then cobble one together that suits everyone's veggie preferences and grains they can/will eat; we drank lots of red wine; and we watched Murder on the Orient Express, which Alyss and Merewyn hadn't seen in ages, and I hadn't seen ever. Wow.  Amazing movie and what a roster of actors!

Also, wow:  Going off flour has been interesting.  It's been kind of a pain?  But my energy levels are improving.  I also drank a lot of red wine over the course of the evening, way more than I usually do, and had almost no flush from it at all.  Speaking as a stereotypical fair-skinned Celt, this is almost a miracle.

And, on the theory that three things make a post, I've been rereading Death of the Necromancer on my Kindle and having a wonderful time diving back into that world, and those characters.  I'd say I recommend it highly, but I'm pretty sure I already made that post. ;->

Okay.  My bed's calling.  Tomorrow I will try, one more time, to finish a damn fic!  (11.5 K, gah!)

rhi: Jack O'Neill, hand over his face (facepalm)
The meds work better if I remember to take the damn things.  Oh, well.  At least if I had to wake up at 4:45, it was from a really interesting story idea which I still remember and wrote down.  Other than that, 'Gah!' with a side of 'OW.'  But it does explain a lot.
rhi: The white gryphon, paw raised, wearing an elf's hat (Midwinter Gryphon)
Everything that needed to be in the mail by tomorrow has gone out in the mail today and thus, I am on strike for a day or two from holiday stuff. Which means I'm going to finish rereading/coding/posting Sirocco and Currents to AO3, and write more 1-3 sentence 'fics I'm not writing' (and maybe write one of them too) and play silly games. But I'm starting with a short nap.

All that aside: the creator of The Middleman... wrote Middleman/Doctor Who crossover fic. I suppose this counts as fanfiction? Regardless, I won't be the only one who wants to read it, so it's over here. Enjoy! I'm off to nap, then read!

Yowza.

rhi: Pen, ink, and paper: Ghost writer (ghost writer)
I'm (finally) posting the Line War over at AO3.  (Yes, it will go to HLfiction after I finish at A03 and have nice clean code to paste...)  I've posted everything through " 'Oops!' Is A Four-Letter Word." The scary part is that "Prelude..." to "Oops!" clocks in at 285K words.  (The Arrivals & Introductions stories clock in at 157K but I haven't posted Hold On yet, either....)

Sirocco is next, and it's something like 125K by itself.  If you think I'm going to bed now and not even contemplating starting to clean up the code on Sirocco tonight?  You're right.

Night, all!

rhi: A child opening a window onto a starscape. Sleep well. (sleep)
(Yes, I know it hasn't changed yet -- hush.) Two whole fic recommendations this week, partly because I've been reading several books.  So, first things first, pro fiction I'm reading:

I'm cheerfully devouring Nicole Peeler's Tempest books (by which I mean I'm halfway through book 3 and have book 4 waiting for me).

I also enjoyed Rita Mae Brown's Murder Unleashed, a new series set in the SW US with some fun dog characters. (It's a little choppy and a little preachy, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.)

And having saved the best for last:  if you haven't read Tanya Huff's The Enchantment Emporium, go pick it up and learn about Gale girls. Then go pick up the sequel, just out Tuesday, The Wild Ways, and enjoy! (Seriously: Magic, Aunties you just do not cross, charms, Dragon Lords, assassins, magic, and pie. Really. I keep reading the book and wanting blueberry pie. Totally unfair.)  I really loved these and and I strongly suspect a lot of y'all will too.

The rest of the reason I've only got two fanfic recommendations is very simple:  One of the stories is 138K!

Dresden Files (books): other things the road to hell is paved with by [archiveofourown.org profile] LuciaZephyr . Summary: I tend to turn right by instinct when given a decision. Right-handed, evocate with my right side, and try to do the right thing.

But we've all done that, haven't we? Wondered what was going down in the universe next door. How one decision would shake up everything we knew.

What happens when we turn left. (LONG, 138K. I kept thinking, "Just one more chapter," until way too early in the morning.)

Thor: When Jane Pegged Thor, by [archiveofourown.org profile] waldorph . Summary: They raise them slutty in Asgard. (Exactly what the title and summary tell you.)

And now I'm running away to bed, because the gym has kicked my ass.  Sleep well when you do, and if you're in the US, odds are good you should set your clock back an hour as we come off Daylight Savings Time and get a little more sleep!

For those interested, the X-Files Lyric Wheel is spinning again. Stories can be found here Off to get some sleep, now that I've fixed the 'oops!' portions of mine..

Yes, I'm alive. No, I haven't really felt like writing in my journal. I usually dump the nastier stuff over here, to get it out of my head, but when I do that, people worry. I hate that.

So. Made it through the holidays mostly intact. Left all relatives and in-laws alive, mirabile dictu. Now if I just knew why I can't sleep?

Somewhere I think I've actually listed it as something to get Dragon for. Not 'get even with'. Just... harass him. Pick on him. Ask what I ever did to deserve this. You get the idea.

I used to be a morning person. Wake up with the sun, already cheerful, morning person. Well, I still tend to wake up, going from sleep to awake without any muzzy in-between stage. But now I sleep late and stay up late and sometimes I just bloody wake up and can't go back to sleep. When I'd do this as a kid, I could stagger downstairs to the scratchy, maroon couch in the library/office, curl up, and go back to sleep. My mother used to fuss about it, too, but oh, well. I've got the world's comfiest couch now but why bother? I'm awake. Bleah.

Guess I'll go find some warm socks, and some headphones, and stare at words on a screen, or maybe just play pinball 'til I can go back to sleep.

Night. Or rather, morning.

You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by ... some of them are golden only because we let them slip by. - James Matthew Barrie,

Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who only dream by night. - Edgar Allen Poe

I often warn people: Somewhere along the way, someone is going to tell you, 'There is no "I" in team.' What you should tell them is, 'Maybe not. But there is an "I" in independence, individuality and integrity.' - George Carlin
