rhi: Alex Krycek and a faint smile -- dangerous. (Krycek)
I swear, my brain has its own odd ways of pointing out, You know, it could be worse. Woke up last night from a lovely nightmare of knowing I was pre-immortal, and studying with Connor MacLeod, and trying to get to him, through the stairs and elevators of a 20 story apartment building, with the Kurgan looking for either of us. Something about a broken strand of pearls, and an aircar that *could* drop cold and maybe glide out if you're really good (and Connor is).... I wasn't at all reassured that the Kurgan couldn't really sense me. Hell, I couldn't find *him*, either. The idea that someone wants to kill you, wait for you to revive, and then kill you again a few more times-- eventually permanently -- is, in fact, much worse than moving. No argument, brain, and I take the hint. Can I please not do that one again?

(To add insult to injury, it was one of the deja vu dreams, where you know how part of it's going to go and you're desperately trying to change it, because you remember this one....)

And I've decided that there's something about the full moon and NaNoWriMo and job applications. Dragon got the contract job last year on the full moon during NaNoWriMo. This year, he got the permanent position the full moon before. I don't think I dare sign up again! (Hmm. Maybe our house will finally sell on the next full moon? That would be nice!) At least this time, it's not quite as far to move, and we've got 23 days to get there before he starts work instead of 10!

Last, an odd question that occurred to me in the shower. (Yes, there was a train of thought; no, I'm not going to divulge it; no, no one needs to worry about what sanity I have. Well. Other than the inevitable 'Oh, dear Gods, I'm supposed to write 50,000 words next month and have neither plot nor characters, EEP!')

Anyway. Odd X-Files question. I keep seeing XF BDSM fic and, inevitably, Skinner is this uber-Top/first-rate Dom and it's usually Mulder who's the sub and finding his one true release and joy lies there. Which, not to put too fine a point on it, I consider complete and utter bullshit. I base this opinion on canon, notwithstanding the fact that I *love* Cody Nelson's Paradox Club.

The simple fact of the matter is that I can't see that kind of 'ultimate' Dom putting up with the Smoking Man's manipulations. He'd either find a way to win, or get out of the game with as much as he could take with him. Or he might play a Dom in BDSM games outside the job (carefully, to avoid the Smoker's spies). However, none of those is what happened in canon. Skinner clearly *wasn't* in supreme control of his life outside sex. Not given the way the Smoker, and then Krycek, kept showing up and giving orders. Hell, judging by his separation/divorce and the call girl who showed up dead in his bed, Skinner wasn't even in control of his sex life!

As for Mulder as a sub? Hoo boy! Where to even start? The man doesn't always trust his partner (with reason; Folie a Deux and The Beginning alone?) or his boss. It doesn't help that Scully doesn't necessarily think Mulder should trust Skinner either, and that Mulder can't always trust Scully. She has to have that microchip to keep the cancer under control, but Patient X/The Red and the Black make it clear that she *can* be controlled thorugh that chip, too. Skinner's been contaminated by the nanites, and Krycek still has the Palm Pilot. Hell, Mulder's been infected with a weakened version of Oil, had memories deleted, and let people drill holes in his head... Mulder can't really trust anyone. Including himself. He can't even think he's crazy to feel this way.

With trust issues like that, and Mulder's proven record as an insubordinate smart ass (breaking onto military bases, hacking computers, investigating X-Files while assigned to Domestic Terrorism?), how am I supposed to buy that Mulder *would* trust someone enough to take their orders? Now, I could see Mulder playing BDSM, if he was the Dom. No problem at all. He'd probably love to give orders and be in control just once. For that matter, Mulder has a doctorate in psychology, even if he's not in active practice. (Profiling isn't counseling.) Don't you know he could play a sub like a fine violin? He did just that to any number of superiors in the FBI, after all.

Anyway. I'm wondering if anyone else has opinions on this, dissenting, agreement, takes on any other XF characters?

Off to apartment hunt. Have fun with the question!
