Dear writer,
I get a gift for the holidays -- thank you! The thought alone is already an improvement over last year, okay?

Yes, I have a sign-up at the community. What I don't know is if you're the type of person who wants lots of prompts and ideas, or if you'd rather go, 'Huh, she asked for these characters and maybe those crossovers? That gives me ideas!' I am just fine with either. If you had fun writing it, then I'm going to have fun reading it.

So. People I'd love to see a story about, and ideas for types of stories I like are listed below the cut. I like gen, queerplatonic, or slash. I am totally good with gen if you don't want to write slash, and I'm fine with fade to black if smut is not your cuppa. I really don't want the listed DNWs -- I'll put them under a tag first,so you can just run with your own ideas if you want. But other than those DNWs, I'm just looking forward to a present.

Dislikes/DNW
Major character permanent death, non-con, incest, child abuse, kid/baby fic, mpreg, a ton of angst, grimdark in general, omega verse, extreme kink.

Preferred characters
Connor, Rebecca, Darius, Matthew, Sean, Methos, Cory, Amanda, Rachel Ellenstein, Kastagir, Haresh & Carter, Joe are all good. Also Gregor, oh gods, I forgot Carl! Terrence. Um, honestly, I like a lot of them.

Favorite tropes and themes
2. PREFERENCES: found family, fix it fic, heists and capers, slice of life. What are the other characters up to while Duncan's off heroing? Teasing, banter, humor, alternate POVs, loyalty, love, competence. AUs from crossovers or one changed event.

Would I be all right with a crossover? The answer is yes. Oh, yes.
Honestly, if you see something in my tags list, AO3 or DW, that looks like fun to write, I'll probably have fun reading it. Fandoms I love include: Leverage, Forever Knight, due South, X-Files, Numb3rs, Victor/Victoria, Nero Wolfe, MASH, MCU, Batman, Longmire (the books, not the show), Hopscotch, Buffy, Forever, etc.

I hope this helps. If you need to ask me anything, Lferion's going to have an ask post, or leave an anonymous comment here. I hope this helps!

1) What show or movie original cast would you like to see reunite for an update - where the intervening time has passed and we're getting a view of where they are now along with glimpses on how they got there?

Not my lovely Highlander, sadly. It's supposed to be about immortals, but the actors have aged. I would love to see due South again, find out how Dief's descendants are doing, what Ray and Ray and Fraser are up to, if Elaine is running her own precinct now... And I'd love a proper Leverage sequel. I'm sorry, but I want the Leverage international end of 5th season promised, with teams here and there and Parker the Mastermind. I love Sophie, I appreciate that they're trying to take care of her, but for me, Leverage: Redemption felt like fanfic, and with a lot of fan service at that. I am among the people who would watch a Xena re-airing with Gabi and Xena doing bookend 'current day in the life' content around the old episodes, which wouldn't stress their no-longer-twenty-something bodies.

For movies, I have two big ones: I'd love to see where the characters are now from either Big Trouble in Little China or a sequel to Princess Bride. (Dread Pirate Inigo? WANT.)

2) What show or movie would you like rebooted? Same premise and story-lines, but all new actors, showrunners, writers, technology, and social awareness? ETA: I'm thinking of this in terms of 'what would I want on a public broadcast or basic channel, not Disney+ or Netflix or HBO, type thing.

Okay, this one *is* Highlander, with more history and implications of how lives and mores and customs might interact, as well as the cool sword fights. Also, more non-straight, non-white, etc, etc, etc would be good. The other option would actually be Perry Mason, with more modern cases but the same willingness to help anyone who needs it applied more widely. (Fun trivia, an early Perry Mason ep was one of George Takei's early roles.)

The other questions are here or click the graphic below. Now back to my fic which is due oh holy fuck when? (I thought the 21st. Nope. the 18th.)

I finished my Into A Bar fic! (And it's less than 5K!)

Summary: One Widow got away. Other Widows are still trapped. This requires... Leverage.

Available at the AO3 here. Enjoy!

Now back to writing...

I have a meme running over here.  I've reposted the rules below and I'm taking suggestions for 15* characters in 9 fandoms, everything from serious plot to pure silly crack.  So far I have mindbogglingly strange and 'oh my gods this is fun to write' perfect.  Please feel free to come throw your ideas in:  I'm taking suggestions through whenever I get online tomorrow, which will probably be about noon CDT (Greenwich - 6, I think).  Feel free to go silly, or toss tropes at me.  I had fun writing the 'sharing a bed' one, gods know.  See you guys tomorrow with new short fic!

* I have a list of 15.  But two of the 15 are sets, and I'm using one or both from the sets as I see fit, so it's actually 17.  Oops?

1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment.  (Be advised:  Because this is me, there are a few OCs in there.)

2) Ask your f-list to post questions in the comments. For example: "One, nine, and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?", "Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?", "Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?"  Silly is perfectly fine.

3) After your f-list has stopped asking questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.

I've made my list, so if you have a moment, now it's time for you all to ask questions!

ETA:  Please be advised:  Characters in icons are not necessarily showing up in this meme!  Sometimes, I just hit 'random icon' and run with it.

ETFA:  And closed!

Back to work on the Aidan-verse fic after dinner!

I feel like I'm surfacing finally -- oops?

I have no idea what to post, either, other than to mention that in about 4 weeks, we hit the 20th anniversary of the due South pilot.  There will be fanworks, there will pic spam and rec sets, people are encouraged to make new art for the event.  It's technically Weds 23rd April, but since that is middle of the week, it's kinda gonna be a week/long weekend of fun instead.  Details are over here.  I'm personally taking fic prompts here if you've got anything.  Failing that... who the hell knows what I'll write?

Hey, guys.  [personal profile] arduinna has issued an Idyll Challenge -- multi-fandom, multi-format challenge in which the characters are stuck in a peaceful, comfortable, well-stocked place, usually with some kind of swimming available.  I'd love to play but have no idea who to write.  Got any suggestions?  Gen or otherwise, rare/unusual mixes preferred, and Highlander crossovers would help me finish out a few more of my 100 challenges.  (I think I'm at 70, however.  Whee!)

What can I say, I got such lovely suggestions from y'all for Connor's birthday that I thought I'd ask.  Thank you!!

rhi: Vincent Price, "The midnight hour is close at hand..." (spook me)
[personal profile] spook_me  is gearing up again, early and for the eighth year.  This year, they're adding a new monster to the list of prompts:  Dragons!  (What?  Look at who I'm married to; do you expect anything but caps and exclamation points there?)  So, I'm already signed up.  I will point out to the rest of y'all that we're at X-Files 20th Anniversary year, that Highlander hits voting age this year, and well, come on, folks, Halloween stories about dragons (Night Vale?), men in black (MCU), shapeshifters (X-Files), dragons (Buffy, Teen Wolf), et al?  You get the idea.

This year, the prompts are going to be tarot cards.  You only have to use one card (you'll get two) or one monster of your choice (not even necessarily the original choice if you get a better idea) for it to count.

If you do want to sign up, go here.  It's a no pressure challenge:  no minimum or maximum length, almost two months to write, and per the rules of the challenge, if you're not having fun, it's time to stop writing.  Hope to see some of you there in a couple months!
rhi: Rebecca and Amanda. "Quiet women never make history." (Rebecca Amanda make history)
Okay, the fic lists for Matthew McCormick, Rebecca Horne, and Sean Burns have been updated.  No new stories for Sean, drat it. (I may have to do something about that.)  Several new stories for Rebecca, almost all of them by [archiveofourown.org profile] merfilly (I have one, or they would all be by Merfilly!), and some new stories for Matthew.  As I said before, I may have to split his post up for future editing ease!

Seriously, is anyone up for a secondary characters ficathon, fics due anytime in September?  (So as to let folks be done in time to panic over Yuletide and/or HLH Shortcuts?)  Any ideas where else I should ask this question?

rhi: Connor just won the battle with the Kurgan; text reads "My fic is done!" (my fic is done)
The Methos and Natasha fic is DONE like a DONE THING.  I need to finish the footnotes for it and then scare up some betas (Sam, Ali, Devo, Mischief, any of you up for it?), but oh god, 14K left in, 3.5K started and yanked out, I'm DONE.

I'm going home to kiss my husband and write up notes.  Hardcopy beta tonight, then fic out tomorrow, I think. Oh gods, oh gods, it's DONE.  I only got the prompt 11 months ago...
rhi: A cup of tea, an open book, and a mint leaf to sniff or mark my place. Reading. (reading)
First, the humor.

Second, I'm trying to figure out if I sign up for [community profile] intoabar . (Expect me to dither a few more days on this, then give up and sign up.)

Third, I can't decide which is worse: PT, writing the villain in this fic (I almost have Joe free of him and can only say *\0/*), or figuring out how many pages I have to create, link, and upload for the Eyrie. Oh my god, how did I get this far behind? Eep!

Last, I leave you with a picture and statement I agree with:

And another large, but fun, picture. )
rhi: Sean Burns, drinking brandy. (Sean)
The fic lists I keep for Matthew (DW LJ), Rebecca (DW LJ), and Sean (DW LJ) have been updated again and once again we have new fic for all three characters, and new authors added for Matthew and Rebecca.

Man, though.  Not nearly enough Sean fics.  Anyone else want to call February minor characters month and we'll write fic with the less-known folks?

Okay. And as long as I'm being productive, time to go redo the short-form [community profile] hl_chronicles  master list*, then I can cross-post to mailing lists about a whole lot of new HL fic this year.... ([community profile] hl_chronicles , [community profile] hlh_shortcuts , and these updated lists).

Okay, fine, the cross-posting might be tomorrow.  If anyone wants to volunteer for that part, please, feel free.

* Redo because damn it, I did this -- and apparently it didn't save.  The file exists, it just doesn't have the three pages of URL links.  Blast it.

rhi: Matthew McCormick, studying bagged evidence. (Matthew evidence)
The Matthew McCormick fic list is (mostly) updated except for two fics (both mine) with missing links.  I only found those after I had posted, so I'll fix 'em tomorrow before I update the Sean and Rebecca lists. You can find the Matthew fic list at DW or at LJ.  (Also, I forgot to update it at all last year?  I'm so sorry!)

Go, read, enjoy:  we have several new fics from this time last year, and even a new author (as in, first Matthew fic from them).  Whee!  I'm looking forward to adding Rebecca and Sean fics from [community profile] hl_chronicles and [community profile] hlh_shortcuts tomorrow!

In related commentary, St. Jude should clearly be invoked here because on the preview, LJ tried to tell me I had extra line breaks all the way through the entry.  There were no extra line breaks when I hit enter to see what would happen.  GAH.

On these notes, I'm gonna go get some sleep.  Night, all!

rhi: Miss Marple is skeptical (Miss Marple)
I will *not* sign up for a Case Story Big Bang.  I won't!  Really!  ...help?
rhi: Father Darius, looking out into the snow (Darius)
Great. Now I have another novella in mind.  Back to writing what I need to finish, but dear goddess... I'm looking forward to this.  Killabeez... you remember we were having an email discussion and you said that Darius story would be a novel?  Yeah.  It's gonna be a novel. Holy crap.
rhi: Typewriter. "Writing is good for the soul." (writing challenge)
I'm not quite to the point of running around in circles... but I'm close.  I have a story due Monday, I have four possibilities partially written and not a damn one of them finished, so of course the stories my brain is telling me are not applicable to what I'm supposed to be writing.  I'm running away 'til Monday, folks.  Wish me luck.  I think I need it.
rhi: The Grim Reaper, scythe and all, by lightning light. Text is "Write!" (October writing)
Partly I'm showing off the gorgeous new icon I got from [personal profile] dhampir and partly I'm reminding myself that yes, I have Haven S. 2 (having just inhaled S. 1 in one weekend...), but my fic is due in about two weeks and thus I must do as the icon says!

Off to find dinner, watch Leverage, and then stay up late writing!
rhi: The sky reflected in shallow water and a person walking the two. (road less traveled)
Usually, I either know what a story's title is, or I go digging for Bartlett's Quotations and hope to find something useful by hunting keywords.  Anyone have other suggestions?  (I'm now 6,800 words in, getting a lot closer to being done, and the bastards have made the title invalid!)

I think I'll go rewatch a relevant episode, and put in edits, and pull out Bartlett's later.

rhi: Pen, ink, and paper: Ghost writer (ghost writer)
Last night, I got to about, oh, 3000 words on a fic.  I woke up this morning going, "Oh, here's what's wrong with it," and started over.  5,200 words later I'm still not done. But, um, it's at least good? Better than the 3K I was beating my head again?  Oh, hell with it.  I like it.  That'll do.

Anyway.  It's also due a week from Monday, so I'm going to sleep so I can write lots of words again tomorrow and hopefully finish it.  Night, all!
